Stiff foam

These foams can also have complex rheological properties. Specialized methods have been developed to deal with the pronounced slip that can be exhibited by food foams [823]. Some food foams exhibit strong yield stresses, as in products that have been whipped to the stiff peak stage. Whipping air into egg white is an example. Baking the stiff foam that results produces meringue.

Foam can be placed within the walls for further strength and stiffness. Foam densities control the property enhancement applied to the part, which is now a composite, and can range from 0.5 to 60 Ih/ft However, the usual range is 2 to 3 Ib/ft . 

If formation pressme is subnormal, air, gas, mist, stiff foam, or low density mud (oil base) can be used. 

Polymer-Thickened Foam. A foam which, in addition to the stabilizing surfactants, contains polymer. Polymer-thickened foams are formulated to produce increased stability and viscosity. See also Gel Foam, Stiff Foam. 

Stable Foam. An oil and gas well drilling fluid foam that contains film-stabilizing additives, such as polymers or clays, and is pre-formed at the surface. See also Air Drilling Fluid, Foam Drilling Fluid, Stiff Foam.
