Statistics Relevant to Mixing

It is evident that the sampling of mixtures and the analysis of mixture quality require the application of statistical methods. The statistics relevant to random binary mixtures are summarized below  

The standard deviation is equal to the square root of variance. 

Actual values of mixture variance lie between these two extreme values. 

Mixing indices. A measure of the degree of mixing is the Lacey mixing index (Lacey, 1954)
