Figure 6. Ordered nickel magnetic moments vs staggered magnetic field directed along the nickel chain. Both quantities are estimated from the spectroscopically measured ground-state splitting of Er3+ in (ErxY1.x)2BaNi05. Figure 6. Unfortunately the staggered magnetic moment (/x) in SmN E C cannot be determined by XRES. The CEF splitting of the / = 5/2 ground-state multiplet of Sm3+ in SmNi2B2C has been calculated by Divis et al. (2002) from first principles, using density functional theory. [Pg.254]

Physical observables that can be measured in both the path-integral representation and the SSE representation include, next to the energy and the specific heat, any expectation value or correlation function that is diagonal in the basis set i). This includes the uniform or staggered magnetization in the z direction, the equal time correlation functions and structure factor of the... [Pg.618]

In principle the AFQ order parameter may also lead to a lattice superstructure with the AFQ vector Q via magnetoelastic coupling terms. This has not been found (Kemavanois et al., 1999) but may simply be too small to observe as it is the case in other AFQ compounds like CeBe. More distnrbing is the fact that in the AFQ state an external field in the a -plane should also induce a field dependent staggered magnetization which has not been observed either. [Pg.240]

Fig. 28. Elastic and inelastic data characterizing the antiferromagnetic phase transition in U2Zn,7 at r,., = 9.7 K. The top fraine shows the development of the order parameter at (1,0,2) compared to an S = mean-field model. The inset shows a double logarithmic plot of the reduced squared staggered magnetization versus reduced temperature in the critical regime. The bottom frame shows the temperature dependence of the quasielastic magnetic neutron scattering at an energy transfer of fico = 0.75 meV. (From Bioholm 1988.)... Fig. 28.
