Stacked binary layers

When either of the semicrystalline forms of the asymmetric alkane are cooled, they transform to a double-layer and a triple-layer crystalline structure, respectively. These 1-d superlattices are described as ABAB... and ABAABA... stacks of crystalline layers as depicted in Figure 25, panels c and e. Note that the structure in Figure 25e is related to the mixed integer folded-extended structure in some pure n-alkanes (Figure 7c) and in binary mixtures of long n-alkanes (Section II.J, Figure 30b). [Pg.408]

Figure 28. Proposed structural model of the C30H62— C36H74 binary mixture. The C30H62 and C36H74 species are separated in individual layers, which stack randomly (after ref 163). Figure 28. Four distinct types of precursors that can be used for the EDA process are illustrated in Figure 1.8 (i) a stack of metal layers, (ii) an alloy of the metals, (iii) a stack of binary chalcogenides, and (iv) a layer containing all of the constituent elements... [Pg.11]

A cholesteric liquid crystal contains both nematic and chiral moieties in a single molecular entity or as a binary mixture. Consisting of a helical stack of quasinematic layers, a well-aligned cholesteric film can be characterized by handedness and helical pitch length, p, as depicted in Figure 5 ... [Pg.294]

The PCM lying along the pseudo-binary (GeTe)xSb2Te3 line are also observed in a stable hexagonal form that consists of stacked layers, and in a metastable cubic phase, the latter being the one used in phase change applications. Both structures are stabilized by Peierls distortions and can be viewed as stacks of distorted cubes, that are further stabilized by vacancies [15-17]. In the liquid state, neutron diffraction study on a wide variety of PCM indicates that they all possess an octahedral local order as well [18]. [Pg.488]
