Spirobenzopyrans boronic acid appended

Shinmori, H. Takeuchi, M. Shinkai, S. Spectroscopic detection of diols and sugars by a colour change in boronic acid-appended spirobenzopyrans. J. Chem. Soc. Perkin Trans. 2 1996, (1), 1-3. [Pg.326]

Shinmori has shown that a boronic acid-appended spirobenzopyran 43 undergoes changes in the absorption spectra on the addition of saccharides. Added saccharides change the position of the merocyanine (MC) to spiropy-ran (SP) equilibrium and hence change the color of the system. With added saccharide, the SP structure is favored due to a stronger N-B interaction in the saccharide complex (Scheme 5). [Pg.1324]
