The properties of the ion radical pair depend on the amount of energy in the exciplex. Ions decay more rapidly from the singlet than from the triplet state. This difference is explained by the concept of spin conversion [174], Cation radicals are readily formed from vinylcarbazole. Their further behaviour is a sensitive function of external conditions.
