Spectral signal area

By taking scans of an absorption profile over a sufficient frequency range, both the peak signal and the spectral area may be determined. This is normally desirable because both peak signal and linewidth for a sample of particular concentration vary somewhat with the nature of the diluent gases (Figure 4.1a), whereas the area does not (Figure 4.1b).
