The radioactive isotopes available for use as precursors for radioactive tracer manufacturing include barium [ C]-carbonate [1882-53-7], tritium gas, p2p] phosphoric acid or pP]-phosphoric acid [15364-02-0], p S]-sulfuric acid [13770-01 -9], and sodium [ I]-iodide [24359-64-6]. It is from these chemical forms that the corresponding radioactive tracer chemicals are synthesized. [ C]-Carbon dioxide, [ C]-benzene, and [ C]-methyl iodide require vacuum-line handling in weU-ventilated fume hoods. Tritium gas, pH]-methyl iodide, sodium borotritide, and [ I]-iodine, which are the most difficult forms of these isotopes to contain, must be handled in specialized closed systems. Sodium p S]-sulfate and sodium [ I]-iodide must be handled similarly in closed systems to avoid the Uberation of volatile p S]-sulfur oxides and [ I]-iodine. Adequate shielding must be provided when handling P P]-phosphoric acid to minimize exposure to external radiation. [Pg.437]

Explosion-proof enclosures are characterized by strong metal enclosures with special close-fitting access covers and breathers that contain an ignition to the inside of the enclosure. Field wiring in the hazardous environment is enclosed in a metal conduit of the mineral-insulated-cable type. All conduit and cable connections or cable terminations are threaded and explosion-proof. Conduit seals are put into the conduit or cable system at locations defined by the National Electric Code (Article 501) to prevent gas and vapor leakage and to prevent flames from passing from one part of the conduit system to the other. [Pg.786]

Remember that both HCP and FCC are close-packed structures and that each has a coordination number of 12, but that their respective unit cells contain 6 and 4 total atoms. We will now see how these two special close-packed structures fit into a larger assembly of crystal systems. [Pg.30]

For protection from cuts and bruises, a special closely woven fabric (duck) as well as any lightweight protecting cloth is helpful. Disposable suits of plastic are particularly important for protection from dusty materials. For specific chemicals, the manufacturer s guide should be consulted for effective protection. [Pg.44]

Provide special closed container(s) for solid waste, e.g. cases, and cleaning cloths, plastic coverings, etc. [Pg.387]

For the given 67-symbol again a special closed formula exists [8]. The triangular condition for the non-zero 67-symbol yields a restriction J[2 = 712, 7,2 1,7,2 2. [Pg.74]

Equation (B2) was earlier derived by another technique for the special closed Jt-shells with alternating electronegativity [138]. Obviously, setting = 0, we return to the Hall formula (6.90). By recalling Eq. (6.91) we have... [Pg.199]

In order to eliminate the odd operator Oq of the Dirac Hamiltonian as written in Eq. (11.40) order by order in the scalar potential Y, an odd operator that depends on V must be generated. As discussed in section 11.5, only the special closed-form free-particle Foldy-Wouthuysen transformation produces an operator 0 linear in V as indicated by the subscript. This is the mandatory starting point for subsequent transformation steps. [Pg.471]

Elndler has described a special apparatus for carrying out the reaction of ketones, sulfur, and volatile aliphatic amines. When an amine is used which boils at approximately the desired temperature of reaction, no special closed apparatus is required, the reaction mixture being heated in conventional glass equipment under reflux condenser. A large-scale preparation starting with 373 g. of 2-acetylnaphthalene in a single run has been carried out (for experimental procedure see p. 97). ... [Pg.94]

Forced electrolyte flow via air sparging, pumping or jet flow in certain cases, a special closed cell may be used or the workpiece itself may function as a flowthrough cell (as in the case of plating the internal surface of cylinders). In a very few, specialized, applications, ultrasonic stimulation of the electrolyte is used. [Pg.400]
