Special -closed

The radioactive isotopes available for use as precursors for radioactive tracer manufacturing include barium [ C]-carbonate [1882-53-7], tritium gas, p2p] phosphoric acid or pP]-phosphoric acid [15364-02-0], p S]-sulfuric acid [13770-01 -9], and sodium [ I]-iodide [24359-64-6]. It is from these chemical forms that the corresponding radioactive tracer chemicals are synthesized. [ C]-Carbon dioxide, [ C]-benzene, and [ C]-methyl iodide require vacuum-line handling in weU-ventilated fume hoods. Tritium gas, pH]-methyl iodide, sodium borotritide, and [ I]-iodine, which are the most difficult forms of these isotopes to contain, must be handled in specialized closed systems. Sodium p S]-sulfate and sodium [ I]-iodide must be handled similarly in closed systems to avoid the Uberation of volatile p S]-sulfur oxides and [ I]-iodine. Adequate shielding must be provided when handling P P]-phosphoric acid to minimize exposure to external radiation. 

Explosion-proof enclosures are characterized by strong metal enclosures with special close-fitting access covers and breathers that contain an ignition to the inside of the enclosure. Field wiring in the hazardous environment is enclosed in a metal conduit of the mineral-insulated-cable type. All conduit and cable connections or cable terminations are threaded and explosion-proof. Conduit seals are put into the conduit or cable system at locations defined by the National Electric Code (Article 501) to prevent gas and vapor leakage and to prevent flames from passing from one part of the conduit system to the other. 

Remember that both HCP and FCC are close-packed structures and that each has a coordination number of 12, but that their respective unit cells contain 6 and 4 total atoms. We will now see how these two special close-packed structures fit into a larger assembly of crystal systems. 

For protection from cuts and bruises, a special closely woven fabric (duck) as well as any lightweight protecting cloth is helpful. Disposable suits of plastic are particularly important for protection from dusty materials. For specific chemicals, the manufacturer s guide should be consulted for effective protection.

Forced electrolyte flow via air sparging, pumping or jet flow in certain cases, a special closed cell may be used or the workpiece itself may function as a flowthrough cell (as in the case of plating the internal surface of cylinders). In a very few, specialized, applications, ultrasonic stimulation of the electrolyte is used.
