The data in figs. 9.30 and 9.31 were obtained under conditions where the stimulation is only transient, so that a single front is observed. If the stimulus is maintained at an appropriate value, the spatiotemporal phenomenon becomes sustained (Dupont Goldbeter, 1994) successive waves then propagate along the cell from the stimulation site as has been described in hepatocytes (Rooney et al, 1991 Thomas et al, 1991 see fig. 9.28). [Pg.404]
