Southern Comfort

Pioneer has done a peculiar thing, which is to put a Southern Comfort cocktail, the Yellow Desert Rose, on its menu. Southern Comfort is not something I had thought about since it crossed my lips thirty-six years ago, at age fifteen. It made fine drinking in high school, and then, after one night of too much, it was gone—the sweet booze of youth. [Pg.60]

The company that owns the brand, Brown-Forman in Louisville, Kentucky, admits as much. Southern Comfort is most popular with drinkers twenty-one to twenty-nine years old. Brown-Forman, which also markets Jack Daniel s, calls it a rite of passage brand. (After a drop-off in midlife, the curve comes back up with drinkers over forty-nine—the fumes of nostalgia, maybe.)... [Pg.60]

People discover it early in their drinking, said Dana Allen, the global creative director of Southern Comfort. It s sweeter and easier to drink. That would be me, stuffing a package of gum in my mouth before going home after a basement party in 1967. [Pg.61]

Southern Comfort, which is technically a liqueur because it is a blend of whiskey and fruit flavors (including peach), was developed in 1874 by M.W. Heron at his bar in New Orleans. [Pg.61]

Today, it is in the midst of what Brown-Forman calls a revitalization that involves a new bottle and a television and Website campaign Between Friends, which features a fictional cast of young professionals negotiating adulthood with good times and Southern Comfort. (The brand s strongest markets right now are California in die United States, Canada, and Britain.)... [Pg.61]

The crux is to retool Southern Comfort s reputation as a honky-tonk drink without losing its rasp. [Pg.61]

Southern Comfort Produced, directed, written, and edited by Kate Davis. [Pg.358]

They had always lived in comfort and where was she to find the money to supply their daily needs Since her father s death and her mother s affliction, they had lived in the utmost seclusion. The few friends of her earlier life had drifted away one by one and there was no one to whom she could turn for help or advice in her hour of need. She must manage alone somehow, she and faithful black Mandy to whom her mother was still the li l Missy of long years ago, the l il Missy of the happy days on the southern plantation. [Pg.59]

Shore excursions in the southern Caribbean are plentiful and varied. You can take high-dollar helicopter spins over Antigua or Aruba, watch for whales off the coast of Dominica or spend a day hiking the base of the dormant volcano on Martinique. Several harbors are smack in the center of the action, with ships tying up in downtown Oranjestad on Aruba, Georgetown on Grenada and Fort-de-France on Martinique. For those who want to stay close to the comforts of the ship, these ports allow for convenient tours of museums and boutiques. [Pg.83]
