The key problem with buying lumber for use in the yard is that so much of it—posts for outdoor use, fence panels, and compost bins, for example—is routinely treated with some sort of preservative before sale. Organic gardeners should, if possible, avoid treated lumber and products, unless a relatively environmentally friendly product has been used. 

Recently some mills have introduced automatic density seanning of boards from within bin sorts. This is used to segregate material into different density groups to aid with kiln drying. This process reduces the variation within a kiln eharge and therefore can reduce the time needed to dry the lumber. 

Since we only consider 10 data, and sort them into 40 bins, the majority of these bins will be empty (and therefore show a 0). Most of the remaining bins will contain a 1, while one or a few may show a larger number.
