Based on phase behavior experiments, surfactants were selected for remediating the NAPL-contaminated soil columns. A summary of the initial conditions of all the soil columns is given in Table 1. The compositions of the surfactant solutions used in the soil column experiments are given in Table 2. The contaminant solubilization and interfacial tension data are given in Table 3. The surfactant solutions used in the soil column experiments produce equilibrium microemulsions with contaminant solubilization that ranges from 39,000 to 1,000,000 mg/1 and corresponding interfacial tensions between the microemulsion and NAPL that varied from 0.20 to 0.01 mN/m (0.20 to 0.01 dynes/cm).
