Sodium borohydride chloroplatinic acid

Brown and Brown prepared an active platinum catalyst by in situ reducing chloroplatinic acid (1 ml of 0.2M solution) in 40 ml ethanol by injecting 5.0 ml of 1M sodium borohydride in ethanol the excess borohydride is destroyed by injecting 4.0 ml of 6M hydrochloric acid. The platinum catalyst thus prepared was nearly twice as active as a commercial Adams catalyst in the hydrogenation of 1-octene at 25°C and atmospheric hydrogen pressure.146... [Pg.31]

To prepare this catalyst, 8 grams of chloroplatinic acid is dissolved in 80 ml of absolute alcohol. Then, in another beaker,. 8 grams of laboratory grade sodium hydroxide is dissolved in 10 ml of distilled water. This is diluted to 200 ml of total volume by adding absolute alcohol, and then 7.71 grams of sodium borohydride is added. The... [Pg.54]

Nanocrystals of a variety of metals have been made by borohydride reduction [144]. Thus, Pt nanocrystals with mean diameter 2.8 nm were prepared by the reduction of chloroplatinic acid with sodium borohydride [147]. Homiyama and coworkers [148,149] made Cu sols by the borohydride reduction of Cu salts. Green and O Brien [150] prepared Cr and Ni nanoparticles by carrying out the reduction with Li or Na borohydride at high temperatures in coordinating solvents (see Fig. 2.1). [Pg.31]
