At the lateral aspect of the hip, extra-articular snapping hip can be secondary to intermittent impingement of the posterior border of the fasciae latae or the anterior portion of the gluteus maximus over the osseous prominence of the greater trochanter. The clinical appearance is nearly similar to that already described for the snapping iliopsoas tendon but with the patient referring symptoms over the lateral aspect of the hip.
