SMA in accordance to American standards

The SMA according to American standards is called stone matrix asphalt and is also known as SMA. It is designed in accordance to AASHTO M 325 (2012). 

The SMA design is based on the volumetric properties in terms of air voids (V ), voids in mineral aggregate (VMA) and the presence of stone-on-stone contact. 

In addition, the target mixture should also satisfy the requirements for water sensitivity determined in terms of tensile strength ratio (TSR).
