Single CAIS Accessing and Neutralization System

SCANS single CAIS accessing and neutralization system... [Pg.18]

PMNSCM is developing the single CAIS accessing and neutralization system (SCANS) to treat individual CAIS vials and bottles recovered at remote sites. When fully developed, this system should be well suited to this task. [Pg.21]

Single CAIS Accessing and Neutralization System (SCANS) (in design) Small reactor in which individual CAIS vials or bottles can be crushed and neutralized... [Pg.35]

The RRS is intended to be used at sites where many CAIS vials and/or PIGs containing CAIS sets are found. If only a few CAIS vials are found at a site, PMNSCM proposes to deploy the single CAIS accessing and neutralization system (SCANS) system once its development is complete (see below). The cost of transporting the RRS to a treatment site can be substantial and could affect the Army s disposal decisions. For example, the Army has estimated that deployment of the RRS to Fort Richardson, Alaska, a site with eight PIGs, would require 6 weeks and cost approximately 1.8 million (see Appendix E). [Pg.47]
