Silicon compounds alkoxy derivatives

Ethers of orthosilicon acid and their derivatives, tetraalkoxy(aroxy)silanes and alkyl(aryl)alkoxy(aroxy)silanes are a rather extensive class of silicone compounds. They are independently applied in various spheres of technology, but are particularly valuable as semi-products for preparing important silicone oligomers and polymers. [Pg.95]

Alkoxysilane. An alkoxy derivative of a silane a compound of silicon having at least one Si-OR linkage, where R represents an aliphatic group. [Pg.111]

A dye molecule that has found widespread attention in the synthetic metals community is phthalocyanine 186, which can be readily made from ortho-dicyanobenzene 187 in a metal-assisted cyclotetramerization that directly provides metal complex derivatives 188 (see scheme 44) [251]. A tuning of the electronic properties is possible via the central atom and, for example, by proceeding to the related tetranaphthalene compound 189 [252]. The importance of phthalocyanines 188 in both fundamental and industrial research comes from the great number of possible applications [253]. Also, 188 can be stacked into columnar arrays by using axial ligands at the metals or by linking silicon centers as central atoms by suitable spacers [254]. The introduction of long chain alkoxy... [Pg.78]

A frequently asked question is whether the silicon needs to have three surface reactive groups. The tri-functionaUty arose initially because the vinyl trichlorosilane (and hence the trialkoxy derivatives) was readily prepared. It is more difficult and expensive to make less functional molecules such as vinyl dimethyl mono-alkoxy silane. There is no definitive information on how such compounds might compare with the trialkoxy ones. [Pg.513]
