Characteristic Side-Chain Residue Group Frequencies... [Pg.342]

D-galactopyranosyl residues carrying (1 — 3)-a-L-arabino-furanosyl and (1 — 6)-/3-D-galactopyranosyl groups as side chains, as well as an occasional, interposed, (1 - 6)-/3-D-galactopyranosyl entity as illustrated. The frequency of occurrence of additional L-arabinopyranosyl side-branch units in the polysaccharide chain is not yet known. [Pg.299]

Since the value of the diffusion constant of OH is less than half the value for e aq the encounter frequencies tabulated in Table II for OH are lower than those given in Table I. The measured rate constants in the last column of Table II agree well with the calculated encounter frequencies. For proteins this must be ascribed to the high reactivity of OH for several amino acid side chains and for the peptide group, linking the amino acid residues together. For DNA this can be ascribed to the reactivity of nucleotides. [Pg.472]

In this section, the correlation between IR/Raman frequencies of functional groups relevant to polymer analysis and polymer microstructures is described. The functional groups considered are the C=C double bond and substituted benzenes. The microstructure featuring the C=C double bond is important because the physical properties of materials such as polybutadiene and related polymers depend on the double-bond content of the overall structure. Also, a small percentage of residual C=C double bonds are formed in polyethylene chains as a result of side reactions. Substituted benzene compounds are used as starting materials such as bis-phenol A, phthalates, and benzoates. [Pg.217]
