Procedures for shipping boric acid esters depend on the particular compound. Aryl borates produce phenols when in contact with water and are therefore subject to shipping regulations governing such materials and must carry a Corrosive Chemical label. Lower alkyl borates are flammable, flash points of methyl, ethyl, and butyl borates are 0, 32, and 94°C, respectively, and must be stored in approved areas. Other compounds are not hazardous, and may be shipped or stored in any convenient manner. Because borate esters are susceptible to hydrolysis, the more sensitive compounds should be stored and transferred in an inert atmosphere, such as nitrogen. 

Most of the difficulties occur when reference materials cross national borders and, as a result of specific national or international regulations, are in some way impeded. Generally the impediments include questions involving tariff numbers and customs duty coupled with environmental and health and shipping regulations. Many times, these questions arise because reference materials are shipped in small quantities and not used directly in commerce. 

Although at high concentration, TKPP is toxic to fish and shrimp. When diluted, 500-1000 PPM, it is non-toxic and expected to be both environmentally acceptable and of low risk to humans. The widespread use of TKPP in detergent formulations supports this expectation. It is listed by the U. S. Department of Transportation as a nontoxic substance relative to shipping regulations.

Properties and handling. 1,4-butanediol is a colorless, oily liquid with a feint odor. It is miscible in water, ethanol, and acetone. BDO is not a skin irritant but it is toxic if you drink it. It is available as technical grade. There are no bulk shipping regulations. 

If this reaction occurs, the chance of spontaneous ignition of the mixture is likely. Therefore, any composition containing both a chlorate salt and an ammonium salt must be considered extremely hazardous. The shipping regulations of the United States Department of Transportation classify any such mixtures as "forbidden explosives" because of their instability [8]. Only one of the acetylides(cuprous acetylide) has found application in industry as an ingredient of electric detonators. Some acetylides, as for instance, that of silver, arc probably suitable for use in primers and detonators. They also may be incorporated in LA-based compositions for expl rivets in order to reduce their ignition point(Ref 6) According to Sax(Ref 6) the toxicity of acetylides is unknown, but their expln hazards are considered to be the same as those of fulminates and azides. The acetylides must be handled with extreme care and In storage they must be kept cool and wet. Metal powders, such as finely divided Cu or Ag, should be excluded. The Dept of Transportation has combined the shipping regulations which used to be separately administered by the US Coast Guard (Title 46, CFR Part 146) and the Federal Aviation Regulations (Title 14, CFR Part 103) (Ref 46). The new regulation provides for a uniform vehicle placarding and documentation system. They replace rail express criteria with a hazard assessment for aircraft operation, and uniform criteria for all shipping modes have been established. The list of hazardous materials has been completely revised and improved directions for their use have been included. The use of prescribed colors for labels is now mandatory (Ref 46)...
