Shells organic molecule configurations

Let us assume that organic molecules in their electronic ground state are reasonably well represented by a closed-shell electronic configuration built by filling electrons pairwise... 

The step from eonfigurations to states is conceptually less simple than for organic molecules beeause, as mentioned above, coordination compounds may have high symmetry (i.e., degenerate MOs) and open-shell ground configurations (i.e., partially occupied HOMOs).
