Sexual identity

New data suggest that use of ecstasy occurs in a variety of settings and is not any more restricted to raves. Amongst US university undergraduate students, the number of sexual partners increased the likelihood of ecstasy use, as did self-reported sexual identity. Gay, lesbian, and bisexual students were more than two times as likely to have used ecstasy in the past year. Poly-substance use amongst ecstasy users was the norm (Maxwell).

Woolf s letters to the New Statesman also raise the difficult question of male and female likeness and difference and the significance of sexual identity in literature. At times, as in the passage quoted above, Woolf insists upon the difference between male and female perspectives, values and standards. Elsewhere in her writing, she expresses a desire for a freedom...

Perrudja is hardly a gay manifesto. Its protagonist makes stumbling, painful progress towards a sexual identity. Though physical closeness is finely evoked, his only experience of actual sex is in the brief episode with the boy Alexander. The homoerotic relationships are all unequal, like the vertical... 

In my department, [the issue of sexual identity] is sort of invisible. I think most of them are straight dudes who don t really think about the existence of people who are not like them. I think they have so much privilege that they can t understand what it s like for people who don t have that privilege.
