Chemical suppHers include basic manufacturers of active ingredients, formulators, and distribution or service industries. The relative importance of each depends greatly upon the industry being suppHed. In many instances, the vendor may supply a number of performance chemicals (eg, corrosion control agents or stabilizers) in addition to the antimicrobial agent.

Now take another example from the service industry accommodation. There are various categories, such as rented, leased, and purchased. In the rented category there are hotels, inns, guest houses, apartments, etc. It would be inappropriate to compare hotels with guest houses or apartments with inns. They are each in a different class. Hotels are a class of accommodation within which are grades such as 5 star, 4 star, 3 star, etc., indicating the facilities offered. 

Quality management is both a technical subject and a behavioral subject. It is not a bureaucratic administrative technique. The rise in popularity of ISQ 9000 has created some unhelpful messages such as the document what you do strategy. There has also been a perception in the service industries that ISQ 9000 quality systems only deal with the procedural aspects of a service and not the professional aspects. For instance in a medical practice, the ISQ 9000 quality system is often used only for processing patients... 

In the service industries, you may need to install new information controls for management to determine whether the services are giving customer satisfaction. This may require new equipment to record, collect, and transmit the data. 

In service industries, special processes include correctness of financial or legal documents, software, professional advice, etc. In such cases, these processes are not separated for special treatment, as all processes in the business may fall into this category.

The National Occupational Exposure Survey (NOES), conducted by NIOSH from 1980 to 1983, estimated that 3,205 workers in the agricultural services industry were exposed to endosulfan in the workplace in 1980 (NIOSH 1984). The actual practice and application of this technique supports a multi-billion dollar service industry which annually utilizes in excess of 130 million pounds of chemical additives. The chemical industry is one of the key global industries with chemical product sales of 1,776 billion globally in 2004 (CEFIC 2005, p. 3). Industries can be classified as mainly process, discrete or service industries between natural resources and the final end consumer need as shown in fig. 25. 

Transportation in general is not a value on its own, but serves primary economic, social or private interests. Transport provides access to markets and production sites and thus helps to foster productivity and economic development of production, retail and service industries. Providing the possibility for people to move quickly and safely, modern transport systems furthermore help to use human capital more effectively and to create and develop cultural surroundings. Additionally, efficient transport networks and systems give all people access to high-level education facilities and to the health system. By that, transport helps to increase the quality of life. 

The National Occupational Exposure Survey, conducted by NIOSH between 1980 and 1983, estimated that 96,345 employees (including 590 females) were exposed to fuel oil no. 2, 1,526 employees were exposed to fuel oil no. 4 and 1,076,518 employees were exposed to kerosene in the workplace (NOES 1992). Most exposure to fuel oil no. 2 was in the electric, gas, and sanitary services industries exposure to fuel oil no. 4 was greatest in the primary metal industries, and exposure to kerosene was greatest for machinists. 

Other organizational groups are essential to safe and efficient operations. However, except for line management, other functional groups are assigned specific areas of responsibility such as product or process research, engineering, technical service, industrial health, environmental services, analytical development, safety and loss prevention, security, and so on. 

In addition, practical methods for the early identification and subsequent cost-effective control of sessile bacterial biofouling in the field often fail to be adequately addressed by the water treatment service industry as a whole. 

The chemistry of chlorine is such that it generally succeeds in oxidizing and breaking down only the surface of slime masses. It is often poor at penetrating and dispersing heavy anaerobic infestations and is completely indifferent to what it will oxidize, attack, or corrode, so there is a fundamental need for chlorine alternatives in the service industry s microbiological control armory.
