Sequential induction

The Rhizobium-legume symbiosis, an interaction between a prokaryote (Rhizobium) and a eukaryote (legume), requires a series of sequential induction and function of both bacterium-encoded (bac-teroidins) and host-encoded (nodulins) nodule-specific proteins. A sequential induction protocol using OKT3 is more cost-effective than conventional therapy in renal transplantation. Furthermore, low-dose administration of OKT3 in this setting additionally may enhance cost-effectiveness. The exact role of OKT3 in induction therapy needs to be further defined (i.e., high- versus low-risk patients and conventional versus reduced dosing).

In summary, the sequential induction of T4 prereplicative proteins is caused by the sequential clustering of the genes. In addition, some "delayed early" transcription may be activated or magnified by a phage-induced mechanism. Fig. 4 illustrates our present state of knowledge. 

The enzymes of this pathway are produced through sequential induction. The existence of the hydroxylating enzymes has been established, but the enzymes themselves have not been isolated or characterized. Similarly, the sequence of the hydrol3rtic steps and m,tranf-isomer-ization has been determined, but the properties of the individual enzymes have not been described. The ring-opening oxidase, however, has been partially purified and certain properties have been ascertained.
