Separating Other Medically Important Lipids

Gb 6en and Samuelsson [61] quote solvent systems for TLC separation of all known prostaglandins, both as fatty acids and as methyl esters. Bygdemait and Samuelsson [20] have published work on the quantitative determination of prostaglandins in pooled human semen. 

Goodman [60] has investigated the level of squalene in plasma and its metabolism in humans he used C-mevalonic acid and foimd the major part of the labelled squalene in the lipoproteins of lower density and a concentration of 30—35 [xg-% in plasma. Small amounts of lanosterol probably also occm in plasma. 

Svennebholm and Svennebeolm [161, 162] have extracted the neutral glycohpids from human serum, spleen and hver and were able to separate 4 different glycohpids, ascertaining their structure and distribution. Faillabd and Cabezas [42] give a method for isolation of N-acetyl-and N-glycolylneuraminic acid from calf and chicken serum.
