Sedimentation titania

The experiments of Ryan, Harkins and Gans on the sedimentation volume of titania in oils with different additions (sec 4, p, 355) lead to the same picture. In apoiar oik the sedimentation volume is increased by water m amounts of 0.06-26 % calculated on the pigment. The sediment becomes denser (stability increased) on addition of polar substances (methanol, acerof>e etc.) which increase the solubility of water in the oil or of substances like metal soaps, oleic acid, which are known to stabilize watcr-in oil emulsions. [Pg.358]
