Secondary coordinated enzyme expression

To edit programs of morphological differentiation that include the expression of biosynthetic enzymes and proteins involved in transport, channeling, binding and detoxication of secondary products. These programs may coordinate multiple secondary pathways to allow for complex biosynthesis or for the potentiation of biological effects of the final products. [Pg.258]

There are probably a number of coordinated events which link the elicitation event i.e., the initial host/parasite or plant/elicitor interaction, with the accumulation of phytoalexins in potato tuber discs. These include the mobilization of substrate and novo synthesis and/or activation of the enzymes for the biosynthesis of the sesquiterpenoid phytoalexins. Calcium may regulate a number of these processes, and function as a secondary messenger. Elucidation of the mechanism whereby Ca regulates the accumulation of phytoalexins may help us understand the expression of disease resistance in plants and suggest novel approaches for the control of disease. [Pg.80]
