Secondary association

A second factor of importance in this connection is found in the emphasis which was placed in the 1890 s and early 1900 s on secondary association of molecules. Coordination complexes, the concept of partial valences, and van der Waals forces attracted wide attention... [Pg.7]

All the major caseins associate with themselves and with each other. In unreduced form, K-casein is present largely as disulphide-linked polymers. K-Casein also forms hydrogen and hydrophobic bonds with itself and other caseins but these secondary associations have not been studied in detail. [Pg.150]

Xu et al. (1992) used light scattering to characterize micelles formed by a wide range of PS-PEO di- and tri-block copolymers in dilute solution in water. Although full analysis of the data was complicated by the tendency of the micelles to undergo secondary association, they did find that the micellar radius scaled as eqn 3.14, in agreement with the predictions of Halperin (1987). With values of p and RB from the star-like micelle model, Xu et al. (1992) were able to compute % parameters for the interactions of PEiO with water and with PS, in... [Pg.173]

As/bod is further increased to 50 mol % or higher, the polymers form compact unimer micelles where polymer chains are highly collapsed, arising from secondary association between the surfaces of hydrophobic microdomains within the same... [Pg.91]
