Sea Star Accident

This accident occurred on December 19, 1972 when a South Korean oil tanker named Sea Star collided with the Brazilian oil tanker called Horta Barbosa in the Gulf of Oman [3,5,6]. Sea Star was on voyage from Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Both tankers caught fire but while the fire on Horta Barbosa was extinguished within a day. Sea Star continued to burn and experienced a number of explosions. 

Five days after the collision. Sea Star sank. The accident resulted in the death of 12 crew members and the spillage of around 115,000 tons of crude oil [5].
