However, previous FDM [2] was not easily apphed to simulate polymer flow in complex screw smface, especially cooling screw with multiple flights, and the leakage flow effeet in the flight lands. In this study, the experimental serew eharaeteristics Q-P for PS extrusion and PS+R22 foam extrusion were eonducted in single screw extruder. The hybrid FEM/FDM was applied to analyze the experimental Q-P charaeteristic curves of the cooling screw with multiple flights. 

Various methods of venting in a single screw extruder are known [5] as are multiple flights in the extraction section for improved surface renewal [6].
