There are many variants of biased sampling methods for the SAW, for instance the idea of scanning future steps [28] but these techniques will remain outside of consideration here.

FT techniques have greatly broadened the scope of both IR and Raman spectroscopy. In the near future, these methods are expected to provide a considerable stimulant to studies of time dependent phenomena in complex systems. The stroboscope and step-scan technique are probably also u.seful for FT-Raman. This would be very convenient, since it is relative easy to back up an FTIR instrument with an FT-Raman module. 

Using step-scan FTIR, we can obtain spectra of both transient species, the [CpMo(CO)3] radical and gauche-[CpMo(CO)-i 2- In addition, we can measure the reaction kinetics of both the radical recombination and the gauche to trans isomerization. In the near future, this type of monitoring is likely to make a major contribution towards understanding the mechanistic aspects of synthetic chemistry in SCFs. 

The scanning method was developed by Meirovitch. As with pie sampling, a SAW is grown step by step, but to decrease future trapping of the chain in a dead end, a direction is selected after a suitable search of the sur-... 

The use of a step and sample scan method is inefficient compared with rapid scan techniques for the spectral drive. A future upgrade involves the installation of a rapid scan drive with improved metrology to increase the overall observing efficiency and provide absolute phase measurement. 

Remembering that for our fired heater example the controller is reverse-acting, the controller will thus make a step increase to fuel flow proportional to the change in temperature SP. In summary, we have described in this chapter how the dynamics of three of the types of reversible chemical and physical changes can be investigated using a step-scan interferometer by modulating some property of the sample. It can be expected that several more reports of analogous processes will be reported in the future.
