Handbook 44 defines five accuracy classes for scales in terms of the value of the scale division and the number of divisions. Class I appHes to precision laboratory weighing. Class II appHes to laboratory weighing (precious metals, gems, and grain test scales). Class III appHes to the majority of industrial and retail scales, and to all scales not specified in the other categories. Class III L appHes to vehicle, Hvestock, railway, crane, and hopper scales. Class nil appHes to portable scales used for highway weight enforcement. [Pg.329]

Scales are available in a variety of designs and configurations to faciHtate different weighing operations (7). The two principal categories are industrial and retail scales, and precision scales and balances. [Pg.331]

The plutonium usually contains isotopes of higher mass number (Fig. 1). A variety of industrial-scale processes have been devised for the recovery and purification of plutonium. These can be divided, in general, into the categories of precipitation, solvent extraction, and ion exchange. [Pg.213]

The BPT is defined as the level of treatment that has been proven to be successful for a specific industrial category and that is currendy in fuU-scale operation. Sufficient data exist for this level of treatment so that it can be designed and operated to achieve a level of treatment consistendy and with rehabUity. For example, in the pulp and paper industry, BPT has been defined as biological treatment using the aerated lagoon or the activated sludge process with appropriate pretreatment. [Pg.221]

In this category are included a number of topics that become especially significant on the industrial scale. Some of this material is covered at length in Sec. 23, so only an outline is provided here. [Pg.703]

In spite of possessing a flexible backbone and low interchain attraction polyethylene is not a rubber. This is because its chain regularity enables a measure of crystallinity which does not disappear until temperatures of the order of 100°C are reached. It therefore follows that if crystallinity can be substantially reduced it should be possible to obtain an ethylene-based polymer which is rubbery. The means by which this objective has been achieved on a commercial scale may be classified into three categories ... [Pg.299]

The commonly used types of mixing equipment can be placed in the broad categories (1) mechanical agitators, (2) inline motionless mixers, (3) tank jet mixers, and (4) miscellaneous. The nature and type of agitator used depends upon the scale and type of mixing and upon the fluids being mixed. The broad classes of impellers are ... [Pg.455]

The first two categories, clarifying and crossflow filters, have been very well developed and optimized for use in biotechnology and standard wastewater treatment applications. Equipment is easily available for these applications, whether as small 0.2 micron sterilizing filter used to terminally sterilize 100 ml of product solution, or a small 500 ml crossflow filter used to concentrate a small amount of antibody solution. Many vendors of this equipment to wastewater treatment applications have their origins in the CPI (Chemical Process Industries), and have incorporated many of the scale-up and optimization properties developed in much larger units used in large scale chemical production. As a result, these two filtration unit operations are one of the most optimized and efficient used in wastewater treatment. [Pg.185]

Continuous releases of concentrated HjS streams must be segregated in a separate flare system to limit the extent of fouling and plugging problems. Releases of HjS such as diversion of sour gas product to flares during shutdown or upset of a downstream sulfur recovery unit are considered to be continuous, but safety valve releases are not included in this category. However, if a special HjS flare system is provided for continuous releases, the concentrated HjS safety valve releases should be tied into it rather than into the regular flare system. Due to the nature of HjS one should plan on frequent inspection and flushing of HjS flares to remove scale and corrosion products. [Pg.279]

Small-scale experiments with fireballs have been carried out by a number of investigators, and can be roughly divided into two categories. The first includes experiments in which a spherical gas-air mixture contained by a thin envelope at ambient pressure was released, then ignited (soap bubble experiments). [Pg.161]

The necessity for interaction between biotechnologists and chemical engineers increases with the scale of production. In chemical manufacture three categories of product can be defined according to the scale of production (Table 2.2). [Pg.18]
