Sawing and Shearing

Fluoropolymers, including polytetrafluoroethylene parts of any size, can be sawed. Coarse saw blades are preferable to fine-toothed blades that can become blocked with resin. Longer saw blades perform better than short blades such as a hacksaw blades. A band saw operated at moderate speeds is ideal because the long blade can remove the heat. [Pg.254]

Shearing of rods and sheets of PTFE can be done as long as the work and the blade are firmly supported to prevent angular cuts. The limit for shearing sheets is a thickness of 10 mm and for cutting rods is a diameter of 20 mm. [Pg.254]

A foil, press, cutting saw, and shear machine is also used in the MB. This machine compresses and cuts scrap gsaerated in the disassembly op ations. Scrap that is generated during disassembly of Mark 22 assemblies is not processed through the foil, press, and shear machine. However, all the scrap that has accumulated from previous disassembly operations may eventually be processed through this madiine. [Pg.48]
