S. L. Glashow (Harvard), A. Salam (Imperial College, London) and S- Weinberg (Harvard) contributions to the theory of the unified weak and electromagnetic interaction between elementary particles, including, inter alia, the prediction of the weak neutral current. [Pg.1303]

It is difficult to predict if a neurologically injured patient will successfully be extubated. Salam et alstudied 88 patients prospectively, measuring cough peak flow (CPF), endotracheal secretions, and the ability to complete four simple tasks prior to extubation. In patients who failed extubation, they had a lower CPF p = 0.03), higher amount of secretions (RR 3.0, 95% Cl 1.0-8.8), and diminished ability to complete the four simple tasks (RR 4.3, 95% Cl 1.8-10.4). [Pg.165]

Subsequent studies have been concerned mainly with questions of detail. Wells and Salam have explored the increase of rate with pH at pH > 3 and their data are consistent with Fe(OH)2 as reductant in the region of high pH. The rate with Fe(OH)2 can be summarised as... [Pg.460]

Po and Sutin " have disputed both the extent of the catalytic effect of chloride ion reported by Wells and Salam" and the formation constant of 5.54 (25 °C, [Cl ] = 0.300 M, n = 1.00) for FeCl estimated thereby. Wells " has replied that the value of k2 of Po and Sutin at zero chloride concentration is artifically increased because of the presence of stabiliser in their peroxide, consequently masking the catalysis. [Pg.461]

Two studies have been made of the reductions of NH2OH and its analogues by Cr(ri) perchlorate which dilfer seriously both as regards the results and their interpretation. The results of both studies are combined in Table 22. Wells and Salam find NH2OH and N2H4 to be much more reactive towards Cr(II) than do Taube et (who find no reaction with N2H4 in 24 h at 25 °C). [Pg.470]
