Roller marks

The surface of the cylinders or tyres that come in contact with the asphalt layer should be clean and in good condition. Dirt or oil on the surface of the cylinders or of the tyres will cause premature failures, while rough and worn surfaces may leave roller marks on the surface. 

This article will cover only the analysis of the toner itself, in particular the analysis of the black toner. The examination of manufactured identifying characteristics, such as grip marks, roller marks, and acquired identifying characteristics, such as trash... 

Roller Mark or Roller Scratch. A surface blemish on vertically drawn sheet glass caused by contact with the rollers. Rolling (of Glaze). A term sometimes used instead of crawling (q.v.). Rolling-out Limit. The lower limiting water content in the atterberg test (q.v.). 

Sometimes a paint does not flow properly and shows brush or roller marks. These can often be corrected by adding special wetting agents that cause the vehicle to set the pigment better. 

When long idle storage is foreseen, arrangements may be made to rotate the rotor periodically by hand by 90° or so to shift the position of balls or rollers. This will prevent the grease from leaving any marks on the races and avoid any static indentation on the bearings.

In the simplest form a cylinder with a polished or a matt surface is brought into contact with the film—in order to improve the quality of the surface for printing, or to make matt film from a calender with polished rolls. In this process, while the upper surface of the film is modified to requirements, the reverse usually is marked by the rubber backing roller.
