When the wheel Is mounted correctly and the periphery has been dressed, the collet assembly is removed from the spindle. The balance masses are then removed. A balancing arbor is inserted in the bore. The balancing arbor has a taper identical to that on the spindle and has equal size parallel diameters at each end. Fig. 10.9(a). This assembly is placed on a balancing stand. Fig. 10.9(b), which has previously been set leveL The wheel is allowed to roll on the knife edges and is left until it comes to rest, which it will do with the heaviest portion at the bottom... 

In some machines, stripper rings double as pinch rolls to drive the material through the arbors. 

The first consideration in making an accurate slitter arbor setup is the slitter itself. There are essentially three basic slitter-head designs. They are known as the pinch-roll type, the single eccentric type, and the double eccentric type. See Figs. 10-12. These names refer to the method by which the movable arbor is opened... 

Of course, a jumbo roll of tape is useless to the end user. It must be sHt and packaged into a usable form. Slitting takes the jumbo roll and cuts it into strands of the appropriate width for the given format. Each strand is then wound onto a hub and is then known as a pancake. All slitters operate in a similar manner. The web passes through a series of blades, known as arbors. There are two major parts to the arbor. The first is the male cutting blade, which is typically positioned above the web surface. The second is the female guides, which are typically positioned below the surface.
