Roles of Free and Bound Chloroplast Ribosomes

The products of protein synthesis by free chloroplast ribosomes and membrane-bound ribosomes supplemented by the high-speed supernatant 

The results of this series of experiments suggest that there is a division of labor in the chloroplast the large subunit of Fraction I protein is made by the free ribosomes, but not by the bound ribosomes. Both types of ribosomes may by implicated in the synthesis of the membrane-bound proteins.
