Rodebush

In June, 1951, a brief description of the present structure was communicated by letter to Prof. W. H. Rodebush and Dr. W. F. Claussen. The structure was then independently constructed by Dr. Claussen, who has published a note on it (J. Chem. Phys., 19, 1425 (1951)). Dr. Claussen has kindly informed us that the structure has also been discovered by H. R. Muller and M. v. Stackelberg,... [Pg.435]

Rodebush has also implied that the accuracy with which very low temperatures can be measured is restricted by the uncertainty principle and by the nature of the substance under investigation. However, the accuracy of a temperature measurement is not limited in a serious way by the uncertainty principle for energy, inasmuch as the relation between the uncertainty in temperature and the length of time involved in the measurement depends on the size of the thermometer, and the uncertainty in temperature can be made arbitrarily small by sufficiently increasing the size of the thermometer we assume as the temperature of the substance the temperature of the surrounding thermostat with which it is in either stable or metastable equilibrium, provided that thermal equilibrium effective for the time of the investigation is reached. [Pg.803]

At the request of Professor Rodebush, the wording of this sentence has been changed slightly from that in his paper. [Pg.803]

We believe that the ideas discussed in this connection parallel those of Rodebush, but have thought it worth while to give them in greater detail. [Pg.803]

W. M. Latimer and W. H. Rodebush, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 42 (1920), 1419. This paper is often cited as the discovery of H-bonding (but see Jeffrey, note 5). Its title, Polarity and ionization from the standpoint of the Lewis theory of valence, reflects the strong influence of G. N. Lewis on all aspects of the early development of H-bond theory. [Pg.704]

Steiner and Rideal45 determined the Arrhenius parameters for (22), log k22 = 10.86 — 5200/4.58 T, from a study of the HCl-catalysed ortho-para hydrogen reaction in the temperature range 600-770°. When allowance is made for the better data for the hydrogen dissociation available to Steiner and Rideal, their results agree well with earlier work by Rodebush and Klingelhoefer46. [Pg.153]

His keen analysis of the hydrogen chlorine reaction has also had support in the recent work of Rodebush and Klingelhoefer on the collision efficiency of the reaction Cl + H2. It is found that this reaction goes in one every 10 collisions, whereas the value suggested by Bodenstein was 10. ... [Pg.3]

At the beginning of the 20th century, Huggins [1], Latimer and Rodebush [2], and Pauling [3] introduced the concept of a classical or conventional hydrogen bond A-H- -B as that formed between a (conventional) hydrogen... [Pg.433]
