Fig.1. Local Mactung Geology (Yukon-NWT). further south, a number of prominent aplltic dykes occur. Porphyritic granites similar In colour to that of the blotite granite, and leucogranite were Intersected In drill holes. In places, these granites become richer In calcic plagloclase with lower amounts of blotite giving the rocks a lighter colour. Fig.1. TRACHYTE. The name of an extrusive, igneous, fine-grained or porphyritic rock, the surface equivalent of syenite. Trachyte is predominant in alkali feldspar and usually contains biodte and augite. Trachyte is an old name, proposed by Brongiart in 1813, and has never been altered or supplanted. It is derived from the Greek, meaning rough. [Pg.1629]

The lava has a poorly porphyritic hypocrystalline texture and contains phenocrysts of Al-poor diopside (AI2O3 0.3-0.4 wt%) and phlogopite set in a groundmass of kalsilite, melilite and glass. The rock has been petro-graphically classified as a pyroxene-kalsilite melilitite, and is also known by the local name of coppaellite. The Cupaello lava has been affected to... [Pg.56]
