Robinson, Elihu

Dalton gave up on the school after two years and returned to farm work. At the same time he continued with the self-education that had begun when he left school. His studies were furthered by a wealthy Quaker, Elihu Robinson, who had become interested in Dalton while he was still a struggling schoolmaster. Robinson, who had a great interest in natural philosophy, allowed Dalton to use his extensive library, and tutored him and another boy in mathematics. [Pg.133]
