Indeed, since Weyer believed in witchcraft, and since the concept of witchcraft was inextricably intertwined with that of malefaction, he was unable to persuade his critics, or the public, that witches were harmless. Robbins cogently observes that Weyer was activated by pity rather than by reason. Consequently, his attempted distinction between harmless witches and wicked wizards was easily demolished by his more logical opponents, like Bodin.
