Rivastigmine

Because rivastigmine is not hepatically metabolized, pharmacokinetic cytochrome P450-related drug interactions are not expected. However, the previously discussed pharmacodynamic interactions associated with other cholinesterase inhibitors may occur with rivastigmine as well. [Pg.209]


Donepezil has the advantage of once-daily administration and appears to be better tolerated than tacrine. Tacrine is particularly harmful to the liver. The new dragp rivastigmine and galantamine, like the other two, are effective in treating mild-to-moderate dementia of AD. [Pg.305]

Rivastigmine is approved for the treatment of mild to moderate dementia of AD at an initial dose of 1.5 mg twice daily if this dose is tolerated for at least 2 weeks, then the dose can be increased to 3 mg twice daily. Anticholinesterase A drug that inhibits the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which normally inactivates acetylcholine at the synapse.
