RIMAPS and Variogram Analysis

The mathematical procedure is essentially the rotation of the digitized image I x,y) a certain angle a, and the calculation of the x-step of the two-dimensional Fourier transform for eachy-line of the new image Ia x,y) obtained after rotation  

Results from Eq. (1) are averaged over all jy-coordinate of the image and an average power spectrum (APS) is obtained for each angular position  

In the present chapter, we focus our attention on both the tendencies of the curve and on the intensity and shape of the peaks. To clarify the use of this technique, a few images from ideal geometrical shapes are compared to experimental surface patterns obtained on different materials.
