The assumption in Brownian motion is always m. mg. It is possible to determine the range of validity of the Brownian-particle assumption (and the range of validity of the Fokker-Planck equation) for the model of particle and gas as rigid spheres — the Rayleigh gas. For homogeneous host gas a Fokker-Planck equation can be written and solved exactly for the same problem, a transport or master equation can be studied with an exact scattering kernel [2.16].
