Much of the experimental structure-function work on RCs uses mutagenesis. Site-directed mutagenesis has been most developed for the RC from Rhodobacter capsulatus. Using this technique the Rb, capsulatus RC has been partially synunetrized (6). One of the partially symmetrized mutants, named Dll, has turned out to be of particular interest (7).
