RF-only octopoles

The ESI-produced ions are collected and transferred through a skinuner and two rf-only octopole assemblies. The space-charging effect (i.e., a buildup of excessive charge) is a serious problem in ion traps. Therefore, there is a need to restrict the number of ions entering the trap. In Figure 3.17, a gating lens is added to control the transfer of ions to an acceptable value.
