Reverse ALARP

Occasionally industry managers have attempted to show that the risk mitigation measures that are in place are too stringent and that they could be reduced (with the consequent savings) without crossing into the area of unacceptable risk. 

Needless to say, the regulators have not looked favorably on such propositions. It is hard to defend a situation in which an operator deliberately makes safety worse.
