Resume of the VSEPR model

Non-bonding or lone pairs have larger domains than bonding pairs in the same valence shell. [Pg.265]

Bonding pair domains in the valence shell of a central atom decrease in size with increasing electronegativity of the ligand, and increase in size with increasing electronegativity of the central atom. [Pg.265]

Double and triple bond domains which are composed of two and three electron pairs, respectively, are larger than single-bond electron pair domains. [Pg.265]

The spherical surface, on which the electron pairs are assumed to be localized in Gillespie s model, is identified with the sphere of maximum charge concentration in the VSCC of the central A atom, and the localized pairs of electrons are identified with the local concentrations of electronic charge present on the sphere of maximum charge concentration. [Pg.265]
