Renormalization of Ring Currents

In chanistry, an internal inconsistency was for the first time recognized very recently in calculations of CC bond currents in modeling some benzenoid hydrocarbons. Non-interacting molecular subunits (e.g., naphthalene units in perylene)

2 for the area of naphthalene. Because there are six conjugated circuits in naphthalene when normalized, the currents are 4/6 = 0.66667 and 6/6=1, respectively. The bond currents of the central CC bond cancel one another.
