Rectifier equipment

Pure aluminum is used in the electrolysis protection process, which does not passivate in the presence of chloride and sulfate ions. In water very low in salt with a conductivity of x < 40 yUS cm" the polarization can increase greatly, so that the necessary protection current density can no longer be reached. Further limits to its application exist at pH values < 6.0 and >8.5 because there the solubility of Al(OH)3 becomes too high and its film-forming action is lost [19]. The aluminum anodes are designed for a life of 2 to 3 years. After that they must be renewed. The protection currents are indicated by means of an ammeter and/or a current-operated light diode. In addition to the normal monitoring by service personnel, a qualified firm should inspect the rectifier equipment annually. 

Power Supply Electrical precipitators are generally energized by rectified alternating current of commercial frequency. The voltage is stepped up to the required value by means of a transformer and then rectified. If components of a mixture form a heteroazeotrope or by the addition of an entrainer (E) a heteroazeotrope can be formed, the azeotropic composition can be crossed by decantation. In the pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries batch processes including the batch heteroazeotropic distillation (BHD) are widely applied. As far as we know the BHD was exclusively applied in the industry in batch rectifiers (equipped with a decanter) in open operation mode (with continuous top product withdrawal). The batch rectifier (BR) was investigated with variable decanter holdup by Rodriguez-Donis et al. (2002) and with continuous entrainer feeding by Modla et al. (2001, 2003) and Rodriguez-Donis et al. (2003), respectively. Recently the BHD was extensively studied for the BR and multivessel columns by Skouras et al. (2005a,b). 

In other districts where the wines have a strong, earthy flavor somewhat more elaborate apparatus is used. The La Rochelle district uses the Alembic des lies which is a pot still with rectifying equipment. The Midi uses a continuous distilling column of the kind in favor in this country, excepting that it is equipped with a faucet or tap at each plate. This arrangement enables the operator to distil at higher or lower strengths at will. 

The critical path items on the project schedule will normally be the delivery of the automated equipment, delivery of the transformer/rectifier equipment and the construction of the electrolysis cells. 

For economic and environmental reasons, mercury and diaphragm plants are increasingly being converted to membrane electrolyzers. The existing facilities, such as rectifiers, equipment for brine purification, and equipment for product treatment are utilized as much as possible.
