Jack Rebok. He then stored the purified TFE in 1 - to 2-pound quantities in small steel cylinders. On April 6,... [Pg.227]

Jack Rebok took out one of the steel cylinders for an intended experiment and observed that there was no TFE gas emerging when he opened the valve to the cylinder. After poking the valve with a wire, the two men soon established there was indeed no TFE gas in the cylinder. The dilemma, however, was that the weight of the cylinder indicated that the gas had not escaped. They unscrewed the valve and carefully tipped the cylinder upside down, A little white powder fell out But not enough to account for the total weight of the cylinder. [Pg.227]

In contrast, Roy spent his entire career (39 years) with DuPont and was recognized as being the first to demonstrate the production of polyfluorocarbons. Dr. Plunkett in cooperation with Jack Rebok discovered solid polytetrafluorethylene (Teflon) in a cylinder which had been filled with gaseous tetrafluorethylene. This discovery, not only provided an unusually heat and corrosion resistant product but also paved tive way for the development of many other polyfluorocarbons. [Pg.245]

On the morning of April 6, 1938, Jack Rebok, my assistant, selected one of the TFE cylinders that we had been using the previous day and set up... [Pg.263]
